Learning outcomes
PLO 1 Communicate fluently in English on professional issues with specialists and non-specialists, use English for the organization of effective intercultural communication. PLO 5 Cooperate with colleagues, representatives of other cultures and religions, supporters of different political views, etc. PLO 8 Know and understand the language system, general characteristics of literature as the art of words, history of the Ukrainian language and literature, and be able to apply this knowledge in the professional activity. 1. Knowledge of basic literary terms and concepts. 2. Proficiency in continuously expanding foundational knowledge of foreign and domestic literature. 3. Ability to apply skills of philological analysis and interpretation to various-genre artistic texts.
Course content
"Aim: Develop students' theoretical understanding and practical skills in translation to prepare a reserve for enriching our cultural treasury with translations of achievements from world literature and for integrating our culture into the global information space. The discipline holds both theoretical and applied significance, requiring proficiency in languages, knowledge of foreign literature, as well as ethnological and customary aspects, enabling the mastery and development of translation and translation studies strategies. Abstract: Literary translation stands out as the most effective form of interliterary interaction. We delve into both the fundamental theoretical principles of translation theory and practical translation skills from different languages. The concepts of adequacy/inadequacy in translation and artistic compensation for inevitable losses at various levels of the text should become clear and practically assimilated for students. This understanding is facilitated through their own translation attempts in different literary genres, types, and genres. The lecture material is accompanied by the analysis of literary texts, mostly representing the pinnacle achievements of Ukrainian and world literature, and their translations. Simultaneously, students analyze their own works, applying this analysis directly to further refine their skills. Depending on students' language proficiency, works for translation are selected, representing readings from world literature that either lack Ukrainian interpretations or have outdated versions."

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The educational activities throughout the semester involve oral and written responses, supplementary comments, participation in discussions, and creative tasks such as personal translations, presentations, reviews, and annotations. Additionally, two written midterm assessments and a final exam are part of the evaluation process. The teaching methods employed include lectures, practical sessions, and independent work.
Assessment methods and criteria
Response during practical sessions – min. 2 points / max. 3; contributions during lectures and practical sessions – min. 1 point / max. 2; midterm written assignment – min. 3 points / max. 5; final exam - min. 12 points, max. - 20. The overall grade for the course (min. 60, max. 100) is the sum of points earned during the semester (min. 52, max. 80) and the final exam (min. 8, max. 20 points). Grading scale: "Passed" – 60-100, "Failed" – 0-59.
