PLO 8 Know and understand the language system, general characteristics of literature as the art of words, history of the Ukrainian language and literature, and be able to apply this knowledge in the professional activity.
PLO 13 Analyze and interpret Ukrainian and foreign fiction and folklore, define their specificity and place in literature process (according to the selected specialization).
PLO 15 Carry out linguistic and literary analysis of the texts of various styles and genres.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful completion of previous courses in the comprehensive discipline "History of Western European Literature". Knowledge of the developmental stages of the literary process and understanding the distinctiveness of each specific period in the development of foreign literature. The ability to navigate the terminology and conceptual apparatus of literary studies. Proficiency in basic skills of literary analysis and interpretation of texts.
Course content
The course covers the literary developments in the first half of the 19th century (Romanticism, Realism) and introduces literary trends, movements, and styles in the second half of the 19th century (Naturalism, Symbolism, Impressionism, Aestheticism). The primary focus is on highlighting the philosophical and aesthetic foundation of the specified period. Attention is given to notable examples of the work of leading figures in literature from the first half of the 19th century and the evolution of Western European literature in the second half of the 19th century. The study of the course aims to cultivate in students general skills of literary-critical analysis and the ability to independently interpret artistic texts representing the trends and movements in Western European literature during this period.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Educational activities encompass participation in seminar discussions, the creation of a creative project, and the completion of a final test. The working program of the academic discipline involves conducting both lectures and seminars, with students independently working on assignments.

Assessment methods and criteria
"The final course grade is calculated as the sum of points from current and final assessments. Forms of current assessment include responses on the seminars (max 35/min 21 points), preparation of a creative project (max 10/min 6 points), and completion of a final test (max 15/min 9 points). In total, the forms of final assessment amount to max 60/min 36 points. The final assessment takes the form of an exam, with a grade range of max 40/min 24 points. To be eligible for the exam, a minimum of 36 points is required. To receive a passing grade for the discipline, the exam score must be at least 24 points. Using a 100-point scale, the grades are as follows:
90–100: 5 (Excellent)
85–89: 4 (Good)
75–84: 3 (Satisfactory)
60–74: 2 (Satisfactory)
35–59: 1 (Fail)
