Learning outcomes
PLO 5 Cooperate with colleagues, representatives of other cultures and religions, supporters of different political views, etc. PLO 7 Understand the main issues of philology and approaches to their solution using appropriate methods and innovative approaches. PLO 8 Know and understand the language system, general characteristics of literature as the art of words, history of the Ukrainian language and literature, and be able to apply this knowledge in the professional activity. PLO 13 Analyze and interpret Ukrainian and foreign fiction and folklore, define their specificity and place in literature process (according to the selected specialization). PLO 20 Create texts of different genres and styles (poetry, prose, drama).

Prerequisites and co-requisites
"Before starting this course, students should know basic characteristics of folklore as traditional folk creativity; the connection of folklore with other humanities; possession of basic factual knowledge of a humanitarian nature. Students should be able to work with various sources of educational and scientific information, process information, make generalizations, and draw conclusions, collect and interpret information about the features of folklore genres, apply basic concepts in the analysis of folklore phenomena, plan and evaluate their own work; use interactive media and multimedia."
Course content
The discipline "Verbal Folklore" is a part of the compulsory courses and is taught in the first semester of the bachelor's degree, in accordance with the educational plan of the educational-professional program "Ukrainian Language and Literature and Western European Language". Its subject is the study of folklore as a comprehensive multilevel system of traditional collective creativity. The comprehensive study aims to provide students with a systematic understanding of the origins, evolution, and poetic specificity of ethnocreative products, as well as the comprehension of its artistic uniqueness and multifunctional connections with other humanitarian disciplines. This approach ensures the consideration of contemporary professional requirements for future philologists and meets the cognitive needs of students.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Educational activities for this course include verbal responses during seminars, creative tasks, and exams (tests). The teaching methods: lectures, seminars, and independent study.
Assessment methods and criteria
The assessment for the semester includes verbal responses during seminars (5/3 points), an exam with open-ended answers and a creative assignment (8/12 points), and a final exam in the form of tests (20/12 points). The total semester grade is based on the points for both in-class and independent work, totaling 36/60 points. The course concludes with a written exam - 24/40 points.
