Learning outcomes
PLO 1 Communicate fluently in English on professional issues with specialists and non-specialists, use English for the organization of effective intercultural communication. PLO 2 Work effectively with information: select necessary information from various sources, in particular from professional literature and electronic bases, critically analyze, interpret, organize, classify and systematize it. PLO 4 Understand the fundamental principles of human existence, nature, society. PLO 8 Know and understand the language system, general characteristics of literature as the art of words, history of the Ukrainian language and literature, and be able to apply this knowledge in the professional activity. PLO 9 Characterize dialectal and social varieties of Ukrainian and English, describe sociolinguistic situation. PLO 10 Know language norms and be able to apply them in practical activity. Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful completion of the courses entails the mastery of the school curriculum in Ukrainian language and the history of Ukraine. 2. Demonstrating proficiency in the theoretical foundations of the Ukrainian language as a linguistic system and comprehending the historical evolution of the Ukrainian language as an integral part of the global historical process. 3. Adeptness in the methodology of lexical and phraseological analysis, including skillful navigation of dictionaries. 4.The ability to provide analytical commentary on linguistic information.
Course content
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the basics of lexicology, phraseology, and lexicography of the Ukrainian language. Key aspects of the course include the origin and classification of Ukrainian vocabulary, the history and typology of Ukrainian lexicography, and the genesis and classification of Ukrainian phraseology. The course is aimed at forming clear ideas about the specifics and ways of forming lexical and phraseological features of the Ukrainian language in the context of other languages - in genealogical, typological and areal aspects, as well as with the history of Ukrainian lexicography and types of dictionaries of the Ukrainian language. Students work with educational, scientific and popular scientific literature on various aspects of Ukrainian lexicology, phraseology and lexicography, the encyclopedia "Ukrainian language", etymological dictionaries of the Ukrainian and English languages.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Educational activities: Oral response, essay/report/presentation with slides, written work (text analysis), final test, exam. Teaching methods: Lectures, practical sessions, independent work.
Assessment methods and criteria
Throughout the semester, assessment is based on the types of control and assesment methods outlined in the course. By the end of the semester, students may have grades ranging from 36 (minimum) to 60 (maximum) points, and during the examination, the grades can range from 24 (minimum) to 40 (maximum) points. Students achieving a total grade of 60–74 points, combining both the semester and the exam, are assigned a grade of "satisfactory", while those having grades of 75–89 points receive "good", and those having grades of 90–100 points have "excellent". Students failing to meet the minimum passing score of 60 will receive a grade of "unsatisfactory". Students, who have less than 36 points throughout the semester, are obligated to address the topics they have fallen behind on. This preparation may involve independent work, essays, reports, presentation, or, if deemed necessary, taking a written test.
