Learning outcomes
PLO 1. Communicate freely on professional issues with experts and non- experts in Ukrainian, German and English, in oral and in written form, use these languages to organize effective cross-cultural communication. PLO 2. Process information effectively: collect relevant information from a variety of sources, including professional literature and electronic databases, critically analyze and interpret it, organize, classify and systematize it. PLO 5. Collaborate with colleagues, representatives of other cultures and religions, supporters of different political views, etc. PLO 22. Utilize knowledge of the history and culture of Ukraine and linguocultural studies of German- and English-speaking countries to facilitate successful communication and accurate translation.

Proficiency in German at level B2 and above.
Course content
The discipline aims to study the geography, history, politics, economy, and culture primarily of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, with the purpose of practically applying the acquired knowledge to understand processes and events occurring in these countries and their contexts, in order to decipher corresponding discourses and enhance translation competence. The discipline consists of interactive lectures in the first half of the semester and seminar sessions in the second half. The educational material is divided into blocks: didactic foundations of linguocultural studies, general knowledge of (economic) geography, history, sociology, politics, linguistics (national variants and dialects of the German language), media sphere, art, and culture, as well as the deepening and application of acquired knowledge. Successful mastery of the discipline includes oral presentations and/or essays on linguocultural topics (see the list of suggested topics). These types of assignments are integral parts of assessing students' learning outcomes.

Assessment methods and criteria
Continuous assessment: oral presentation and/or essay on linguocultural topics; active participation in seminar discussions and debates; adherence to assignment deadlines. Final assessment is an exam. Evaluation criteria for each form of assessment are provided in the course syllabus.
