Learning outcomes
PLO 4. To understand the fundamental principles of being a person, nature, society. PLO 8. To know and understand the language system, the general properties of literature as an art of speech, the history of the Hindi language and literature, and to be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 13. To analyze and interpret works of Ukrainian and Hindi fiction and oral folk art, determine their specificity and place in the literary process of India and Ukraine. PLO 22. To have basic knowledge of the Urdu language.

Course content
The goal of the discipline is to provide students with a holistic view of the phenomenon of sacred texts of India and the formation of knowledge about the linguistic specifics of sacred texts of India (Sanskrit); familiarization of future Hindi philologists with the peculiarities of phonetics, morphology and syntax of Vedic, epic and classical Sanskrit; teaching students to read and translate Sanskrit literature. The discipline is a part of the block of disciplines of the student's free choice.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Learning activities comprise interactive lectures and seminar classes. Students’ self-study involves preparation for oral responses, reports with the analyses of scientific literature, research presentation, precis, summaries.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semestral assessment is based on the oral responses, written assignments, presentations – 36/60 points, modular test papers – 12/20 points, final control paper – 12/20 points. The credit is given based on the results of the student’s work throughout the entire semester and does not require additional assessment measures. Students who scored 60 points, the required minimum, receive “passed”. Students who failed to score 60 points, the required minimum, receive “failed”. Those students who scored totally less than 60 points during the semester period should complete a test paper in the items which he/she failed to pass. Final score 60-100 – passed; 0-59 – failed.
