Learning outcomes
PLO 1. To communicate freely on professional issues with specialists and non-specialists in the state and foreign languages orally and in writing, to use them in order to organize effective intercultural communication. PLO 8. To know the systematic organization of the Ukrainian and English languages, the structural and systematic organization of written and oral text as a mechanism of verbal communication, and general properties of literature as the art of speech, and to be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 10. To know the norms of literary language and to be able to apply them in practice. PLO 11; PLO 15.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
To successfully master the course the students must know the orthoepic, grammatical, lexical, and stylistic norms of literary English; grammar, and vocabulary provided by the programs of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd years of study. They are also supposed to have theoretical knowledge of the basics of linguistics (general linguistics and German studies).
Course content
The aim of the present course is to prepare philologists for independent scientific activity within their professional competence, as well as to raise their professional level as researchers; to form the students' English communicative competence as a set of knowledge, skills, and abilities that provide effective intercultural communication in oral and written forms. The discipline is one of the key components of the comprehensive training of specialists for their Bachelor’s diploma. It is based on a cycle of such disciplines as "General Linguistics", "Foreign Language: Theoretical Course", and "Linguocultural Studies”. The course consists of two content modules: "Sound Organization of English Speech" and "Prosodic Organization of English Speech". It is taught in the 7th semester. Time allocated for mastering the discipline is as follows: 60 hours (2 ECTS credits), out of which: lectures - 14 hours, seminars - 16 hours, independent work - 30 hours. The form of final control is an exam.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Training activities during the semester: oral answers, giving additional remarks during the lectures; scientific report – analysis of theoretical literature tests during seminars; individual assignments during independent work.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semester assessment: the maximum score during the semester is 60 points: Oral Answers: LO 1.1 – 20 points; Additional remarks: LO 1.1 – 8 points; Scientific report: LO 1.1, LO 2.2 – 10 points; Individual assignments: LO 2.1, 3.1 – 12 points; Tests: LO 1.1, 2.1 – 10 points. The final assessment is conducted in the form of an exam: • the maximum score during the exam is 40 points, while the minimum score is 24 points (60% of the maximum score allocated for the exam); • the following learning outcomes are assessed during the exam: LO 1.1; LO 2.1; LO 3.1. • the exam is conducted in both oral and written form: 1) Oral presentation of a theoretical question. 2) Performing a practical task in writing. Conditions for admission to the exam: Students who have scored less than the critical minimum of 36 points are not allowed to take the exam.
