Prerequisites and co-requisites
To know the key events of the world history and the history of Ukraine.
To be able to analyse and interpret literature and reference materials on the historical and cultural development of Ukraine and other countries of the world at a basic level.
To have the basic skills of critical thinking.
Course content
The academic course makes students acquainted with the theoretical and methodological basis for studying of culture. The course involves learning basic stages of the development of world cultures as well as their typology. It also provides analysing sources on the history of Ukrainian and foreign culture. The students analyse cultural phenomena and processes from various historical periods, as well as how cultural interrelationships and interactions in the past looked like and what cultural peculiarities were formed in different regions of the world, including Ukraine. The students also study achievements of Ukrainian and foreign culture, in particular the main pieces of art from various historical periods, and learn how and in what circumstances they appeared, what specific features they have. It also provides learning the main cultural institutions and their practices for protecting and popularise the major components of the world's cultural heritage.

Assessment methods and criteria
Evaluation is carried out according to the modular rating system. Formative assessment includes oral answers at the seminar (up to 50 points), creative task (individual work) (up to 10 points), express control (up to 20 points), final test paper (up to 20 points). The form of the final control is a credit.
