Prerequisites and co-requisites
Knowledge of the basics of philosophy; the basics of literary theory; basic information about Ukrainian and foreign literature, Ukrainian and foreign culture.
Ability to formulate own opinions and judgments orally and in writing based on knowledge of philosophy, literary theory, history of Ukrainian and foreign literature.
Possession of skills of classifying literary works - by theme, issues, genre and style, poetry; analyzing the ideological and artistic specifics of writers' work; applying the acquired knowledge in practice (when writing essays, performing individual creative tasks - preparing articles, reviews, essays, etc.)
Course content
The aim of the discipline is an in-depth study of Ukrainian literature in its relationship with world cultural processes.
The course examines Ukrainian literature in the context of the world's cultural and artistic heritage, reveals the characteristic features of the stylistic trends of modernism (symbolism, impressionism, neo-romanticism, neoclassicism) and avant-garde (expressionism, futurism), the influence of the philosophical teachings of A. Bergson, F. Nietzsche, C. G. Jung, S. Freud, G. Gadamer, etc. on their formation and development, the interrelationships of works of Ukrainian literature belonging to certain trends of modernism and avant-garde with similar works of world art - painting, sculpture, music, architecture.

Forms of study - lectures, seminars, independent work.
Teaching methods - explanation of new material, conversation, independent work with scientific literature, analysis of Ukrainian literary texts, works of world culture (problematic and thematic, genre-stylistic, poetic), analysis of visual images of works of world culture, mutual review of answers, creative tasks.
Assessment methods and criteria
Answers in a seminar class, creative assignments, a final survey, and module tests.
