Learning outcomes
PLO1 Communicate fluently on professional issues with specialists and non-specialists in the state and foreign languages in oral and written form, use them to organize effective intercultural communication. PLO8. Know and understand the language system, the general properties of literature as an art of words, the history of the Greek language and literature and be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO10. Know the norms of the literary language and be able to apply them in practice. PLO11. Know the principles, technologies and methods of creating oral and written texts of various genres and styles in the state and Modern Greek/ English languages. PLO14. To use the Modern Greek and English languages in oral and written forms, in different genre-style varieties and registers of communication (official, informal, neutral), to solve communicative problems in everyday, social, educational, professional, scientific spheres of life.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The program is designed for students who have at least A1+ level of Greek; students must know the vocabulary and grammar required for A1+ level; be able to carry on a conversation on the topics covered; express themselves in writing on the topics covered; understand monologic and dialogic speech within the relevant lexical topics; translate texts from New Greek into Ukrainian and from Ukrainian into New Greek containing the lexical and grammatical material studied; be able to use reference books and electronic sources.
Course content
The aim of the discipline is to train highly qualified specialists in Modern Greek philology. The course introduces students to linguistic problems that are part of the field of lexicology, since the training of philologists requires a thorough linguistic awareness of students, their awareness of the nature and patterns of language functioning, and comprehension of the dynamics of the processes taking place in it. The course consists of three content modules. The first module introduces students to the subject and object of this linguistic field, the meaning of the word as the basic unit of language, changes in lexical meaning and the reasons for these changes. The second module reveals the peculiarities of the word structure in the New Greek language, the specifics of word formation in this language in comparison with Ukrainian. The third module is designed to provide students with knowledge of the history of the formation of the Greek language vocabulary, the main sources of borrowing in different eras, and the New Greek phraseology. The work is conducted in the form of lectures and practical classes. The form of final control is an exam.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Academic activities during the semester: Answers to theoretical questions in lectures; dialogues/discussions, research reports, tests in practical classes; writing essays and studying scientific literature during independent work.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semester assessment: maximum number of points during the semester - 60 points: learning outcomes Answer to a theoretical question: LO 1.2-1.3 - 8 points Scientific report: LO1.2-1.3, LO2.3 - 12 points Test: LO1.1, LO2.3 - 20 points Dialogues/discussion: LO1.1, LO2.1, 2.2, 3.1, 4.1 - 10 points Writing a composition: LO 2.2, 4.2 - 10 points The final assessment is in the form of an exam: The maximum number of points in the exam is 40 points; The exam assesses the following learning outcomes: LO 1.1-1.3; LO 2.1, 2.3; LO 3.1, LO 4.2 The exam is conducted in a mixed form and consists of three tasks: 1) a written presentation of a theoretical issue in lexicology; 2) a written presentation of a grammatical topic; 3) an interview on one of the lexical topics covered. Conditions for admission to the final exam: students who have scored less than the critically calculated minimum of 36 points are not allowed to take the exam.
