Prerequisites and co-requisites
1) Successful mastering of the disciplines "Japanese Language (basic level, intermediate level, advanced level)", " Translation Practice (Japanese Language)", as well as knowledge of the theoretical foundations of translation studies from the course "Fundamentals of Translation Theory"; linguistics from the course "Fundamentals of Linguistics (Synchrony)", "Fundamentals of Linguistics (Diachrony)";
2) knowledge of the theoretical foundations regarding the structure of the Japanese language, its characteristic features, parts of speech and ways of their connection in a sentence,etc., which are taught during the course "Introduction to the Special Philology", "Lexicology of the Japanese Language", "Theoretical Grammar of the Japanese Language", "History of the Japanese Language".
Course content
The course develops students' basic skills of translation from Japanese and to Japanese, which they will need to successfully master all further disciplines related to the "Translation" block.
During classes, working with fragments of films, video clips, animation, TV shows, streams and video games, etc., students have the practical opportunity to: 1) enrich their vocabulary with up-to-date words and phrases used in cinema and video materials; 2) observe how the features of dubbing or subtitles affect the transmission of audiovisual material in their native language; how they expand the translator's capabilities and impose restrictions; 3) observe how the basic principles of translation from Japanese (translation of sentences from the end, search for grammatical structure before starting translation, working with adjective phrases, etc.) function when working with texts in audiovisual format. Self-study of students includes work with films, animation, TV shows and video games, as well as mastering new vocabulary and grammatical constructions present in texts for translation.

Assessment methods and criteria
