Know: Tasks and significance of mineralogical research of ores; Basic principles of assessing the quality of ores and means of their beneficiation; Principles and methods of complex testing and research of ores. Be able: To select representative samples of ores for their preparation and comprehensive study Carry out pre-analytical preparation and fractionation Determine the content of main and impurity elements in ore To study the mineral composition of fractions of complex samples Prepare samples of ores with the production of various thin sections To determine the structural and textural features and mineral composition of ores by means of optical microscopy. Study ore minerals by means of electron microscopy and electron-probe microanalysis Calculation of concentrations of ore minerals in samples Make reasonable conclusions about the characteristics of ores that affect their quality. To be aware of personal and collective responsibility for their authenticity
Form of study
Distance form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful completion of the courses "Chemistry", "Physics", "Mineralogy with the basics of crystallography", "Fundamentals of petrography", "Geological prospecting". 2. Possession of basic knowledge in the field of practical petrographic research of rocks.
Course content
Within the scope of the discipline, knowledge is provided regarding the purpose, tasks and significance of mineralogical research of ores to assess their quality, economy and technology of extraction, beneficiation and further industrial use. The principles of comprehensive testing of ores, selection of representative samples for their mineralogical characteristics, fractionation of samples and methods of their phase analysis are characterized. Students practically master the preparation of ore lumps with the production of petrographic, mineragraphic or polished sections and transparent-polished sections for further investigation by means of ore microscopy and electron probe microanalysis. The purpose of such research is to determine the mineral composition of ores of the leading types by planimetric and calculation methods, as well as to establish their structural and textural features, which are of fundamental genetic and technological importance.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures, laboratory classes, consultations, independent student work
Assessment methods and criteria
1. Semester assessment: - Two test papers of 20 points (min 12 points) - Independent practical work and work in laboratory classes - 40 points (min 24 points) 2. Final assessment: Credit in the 6th semester, which takes into account all the student's work on the study during the 5th and 6th semesters and provides for the defense of his results (in the form of a written report) and an additional written and oral survey. The maximum score is 40 points, the threshold score is 24 points. Final evaluation is mandatory. The results of students' educational activities are evaluated on a 100-point scale. The overall grade is set based on the results of the student's work throughout the semester and the final assessment, as the sum of points for systematic work throughout the semester and points obtained as a result of the final assessment in the form of credit. A student is not admitted to the final evaluation in the form of credit if he scored less than 36 points .
