Prerequisites and co-requisites
The discipline "AIDS" requires successful mastering of such disciplines as "Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics", "Epidemiology", "Biological Chemistry", "Molecular Biology", "Immunology", "Virology", "Infectious Diseases with evaluation of research results". Methods and techniques of this discipline can be used both in research of related sciences and in interdisciplinary.
Course content
The discipline examines the processes that develop in the body in response to infection with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Attention is paid to the structure of HIV, the peculiarities of its life cycle, the impact of HIV on the biochemical systems of target cells, as well as the mechanisms of expression of HIV genes. The effect of the virus on cellular and humoral immunity, in particular on the main target cells and other immunocompetent cells, the production of cytokines, the development of the autoimmune process; The mechanisms of development of immunodeficiency in HIV infection are described and the causes of opportunistic infections, oncological diseases and disorders of the nervous system (neuroAIDS) during AIDS are considered. Methods of diagnosis of HIV and AIDS, in particular enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, Western blot, polymerase chain reaction, their advantages and disadvantages are described in detail.
