Learning outcomes
Know: Distribution of volcanoes on Earth and classification of volcanic eruptions. Phenomena that accompany volcanic eruptions and products of volcanic activity. The phenomena of volcanism on the planets of the solar system. Modern ideas about the structure of the Earth's deep geospheres and the causes of endogenous activity Physical properties of magmas and the mechanism of their ascent. Chemical-density convection and its role in the formation of the Earth Features of volcanism in different geodynamic settings Be able: Analyze data on the composition of products of volcanic activity Reproduce the history and conditions of formation of volcanic activity products To assess the prospects of ore-bearing products of endogenous activity.
Form of study
Full-time form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful completion of courses: "General geology", "Mineralogy with the basics of crystallography", "Fundamentals of petrography", "Fundamentals of lithology", "Analytical geochemistry", "Fundamentals of geochemistry". 2. Ability to analyze and think logically.
Course content
The discipline considers issues related to: sources of endogenous activity of the Earth and existing models of the composition of deep geospheres; mechanisms of formation of magmatic centers and volcanic eruptions; the chemical and mineral composition of products of volcanic origin and the formation and growth of the earth's crust at their expense; degree of danger of phenomena accompanying volcanic eruptions. Much attention is paid to the features of volcanism in various geodynamic settings (mid-oceanic ridges, intracontinental rifts, island arcs and active continental margins, back-arc basins and oceanic islands). The purpose of the discipline is to provide students with basic knowledge about the processes of flow and development of volcanism, the connection of volcanic processes with the formation of minerals and the global processes of the Earth's evolution, to form in students a geological worldview that connects into a single whole the knowledge obtained during studies.

Assessment methods and criteria
Semester assessment: 1) Control work from module 1: max – 30, min – 18 points. 2) Control work from module 2: max – 30, min – 18 points. The final assessment of test papers may include the results of surveys - current (during lectures) and additional. 3) Demonstration of a collectively performed presentation on a pre-selected topic - 20 points (marginal assessment 12 points). Final assessment in the form of credit: maximum assessment 20 points, cut-off assessment 18 points. During the assessment, the student answers the control questions in writing. The results of students' educational activities are evaluated on a 100-point scale. A student is not admitted to the final evaluation in the form of credit if he scored less than 40 points during the semester. The final evaluation in the form of credit is not mandatory, if the student refuses to participate in this evaluation form, the student will not receive the corresponding points for the final evaluation.
