Learning outcomes
PR01. Understand the social and economic implications implementation of the latest developments in the field of biology in professional activity. PR05. Demonstrate assessment skills unpredictable biological problems and deliberate choosing ways to solve them PR06. Apply models, methods and data of physics, chemistry, ecology, mathematics in the process of education and provision professional activity. PR08. Know and understand basic terms, concepts, theories and laws in the field of biological sciences and on the border subject areas. PR09. To comply with the provisions of biological ethics, rules of biological safety and biological protection in learning process and professional activity. PR12. Demonstrate knowledge of structure and processes vital activities and functions of living organisms, to understand mechanisms of regulation of physiological functions for maintenance of homeostasis of biological systems.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful mastering of the academic disciplines "Chemistry", "Bioorganic Chemistry", "Biochemistry". 2. To be able to independently apply knowledge of bioorganic chemistry, biochemistry, etc. academic disciplines for solving specific scientific and practical problems; to work with scientific and methodical literature.
Course content
"Biologically active substances" is a discipline that considers the chemical structure, properties of biologically active substances of the human body, vitamins and hormones. The chemical structure, features of biosynthesis of water-soluble vitamins, synthesis of coenzymes, which include vitamins and the main mechanisms of enzymatic reactions with their participation, are considered. The structural features of fat-soluble vitamins, their role in the regulation of metabolism are considered. Attention is paid to the structure and synthesis of hormones, the role of hormones in the regulation of basic metabolism, modern methods of studying vitamins and hormones.
