Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. To know: 1.1 the main historical prerequisites for the formation of university education in the world; 1.2 the main stages and peculiarities of the development of educational processes in the Ukrainian lands; 1.3 Possess basic skills of scientific research and information management; critical attitude and forecasting of political, economic, cultural events and phenomena 2. Be able to: 2.1 describe the features of the influence of world university traditions on the formation of the Ukrainian educational system; 2.2 understand the essence of historical processes that influenced the development of university education in the Ukrainian lands; 3. To possess elementary skills of forming independent conclusions about educational processes in the world, in Ukraine and at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in different chronological periods, to apply in practice the knowledge gained in the learning process.
Course content
This discipline is devoted to acquaintance with the primary sources of classical education and its traditions, highlighting the features of Western European university education at different stages of historical development from antiquity to the present, highlighting the characteristics of the evolution of national higher education, the formation and functioning of universities in the Ukrainian lands. Students get acquainted with the historical overview of the process of foundation and further scientific and pedagogical activities of the University in Kyiv (XIX - XXI centuries), analyze the current situation of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and the Faculty of Geography against the background of global trends in higher education. They study the creation and formation and development of the university departments of hydrology and hydroecology and meteorology and climatology at the university, the role of heads and teachers of the departments in their historical development and formation.
