Learning outcomes
To know: basic concepts and provisions of physical acoustics; physical laws of interaction of acoustic waves with the environment; possibilities and scope of acoustic methods for studying microscopic characteristics; characteristics of acoustic waves and the main experimental methods of their measurement; methods of generation and registration of acoustic vibrations. To be able to: plan and perform measurements of the main characteristics of acoustic waves in different environments; interpret the results of the study of the acoustic properties of liquids and solids; creatively use physical methods to study and diagnose the physical characteristics of biological systems; independently study and use the literature in this discipline, analyze
Form of study
Prerequisites and co-requisites
To master the discipline requires knowledge gained in the general course of physics, courses of theoretical mechanics, molecular and quantum physics. In turn, the knowledge, skills and abilities acquired in this course are used in the study of biophysical courses.
Course content
Models of interaction of physical systems with sound waves. Continuous approach. The concept of a homogeneous continuum. Basic concepts of the theory of oscillations. The propagation of sound in matter. The concept of continuity. Relaxation times. Equation of continuity and its physical meaning. Types of continuums. Deformations and stresses in the continuum. Viscoelastic continuities of Voigt and Maxwell. Standard viscoelastic continuum. K- and P-continuums. Hereditary elastic continuum. Model of piecewise homogeneous continuum. Equation of motion for different types of continuums. Radiation and sound scattering. Sound wave emitters. Continuous and pulsed radiation. Energy flow. Physical nature of sound waves scattering. Assessment methods and criteria
Semester evaluation: during the lectures students are interviewed orally by answering a certain number of questions. The final grade for the educational component as a whole, the final form of control for which the exam is set, is defined as the sum of grades (points) for all successfully assessed learning outcomes during the semester (grades below the minimum threshold are not added to the final grade) and grades obtained during exam. The form of the exam is to write a written paper followed by an oral interview. The maximum number of points that can be obtained by the student during the exam is 60 points on a 100-point scale. Prerequisite for admission to the exam is the completion of all practical work and writing modular tests. An applicant is not allowed to take the exam if he / she scored less than 20 points during the semester.
