Learning outcomes
PLO 2. Process information effectively: collect relevant information from a variety of sources, including professional literature and electronic databases, critically analyze and interpret it, organize, classify and systematize it. PLO 6. Use information and communication technologies to solve complex specialized tasks and issues of professional activity. PLO 12. Analyse language units, determine their interaction, and characterize linguistic phenomena and the underlying processes. PLO 18. Have the skills to manage complex actions or projects when solving complex problems in professional activities in the field of the chosen philological specialization and bear responsibility for decision-making in unpredictable conditions.
Form of study
Prerequisites and co-requisites
Proficiency in German at level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Proficiency in the methodology of translation analysis. Basic computer skills at the regular or basic user level. It is expected that during practical sessions, future specialists will have access to the internet and modern tools for optimizing translation work, such as optical character recognition software, computer-assisted translation systems, electronic dictionaries, and other auxiliary resources.
Course content
The elective course "Terminology and Information Technologies" consists of five thematic blocks that provide students with fundamental skills in translating written specialized texts between German as the first foreign language and the target language. The first part focuses on the basics of terminology. The second part explores translation automation tools, specific devices, and a range of specialized software commonly used by professional translators. It covers text editors and the essential functions of programs for working with electronic spreadsheets, creating and delivering presentations. The third part provides information about major electronic dictionaries. The fourth part describes the methodology of working with certain computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools, which are powerful means of automating the translation process and rely on translation memory technology. The fifth part introduces the basic principles of ensuring translation quality, website localization, and adaptation.

Lectures, practical classes, independent work.
Assessment methods and criteria
Continuous assessment methods include oral responses, topic discussions, presentations, compilation of a terminology glossary, translation of specialized texts, alignment of parallel texts, editing of translations, and creation and management of translation memory. The final assessment is conducted through an examination. Evaluation criteria for each form of assessment are provided in the course syllabus.
