Form of study
Prerequisites and co-requisites
The educational discipline "Introduction to Translation Studies" is based on the cycle of professional and practical training disciplines, namely: phonetics, linguistics and regional studies, and practical course of German as the main language at the B1 level. Students should have skills in working with scientific literature.
Course content
The discipline "Introduction to Translation Studies" consists of two substantive parts. The first includes theoretical aspects of translation studies, the second – topical issues of the history and practice of translation.
The lecture material is based on current research in the field of translation studies by both Western European and domestic researchers and allows students to familiarize themselves with key issues of translation studies, including the role of translation as intercultural transfer, the concept of translation equivalence and its levels, strategies and methods of translation, the role of the translator as an expert in the process of intercultural communication. During practical (seminar) classes, students delve into individual questions of translation history, familiarize themselves with the main directions in translation studies, as well as with the most striking figures in the field of artistic translation.
The educational discipline "Introduction to Translation Studies" is a component of the educational-professional program for training specialists at the educational-qualification level "Bachelor" in the direction of training – 03 humanities, specialty 035 Philology (specialization: 035.043 German languages and literatures (including translation), the first - German) and serves as a theoretical basis for subsequent courses on translation practice.

Assessment methods and criteria
Current assessment: report at a seminar, answer/addition at a lecture/seminar, control work. The final assessment is an exam. The evaluation criteria for each form of control are indicated in the course program.
