Learning outcomes
PLO 1. Communicate freely on professional issues with experts and non- experts in Ukrainian, German and English, in oral and in written form, use these languages to organize effective cross-cultural communication. PLO 5. Collaborate with colleagues, representatives of other cultures and religions, supporters of different political views, etc. PLO 9. Characterize dialect and social varieties of German language, describe the sociolinguistic situation. PLO 10. Know the rules of standard language and be able to apply them in practice. PLO 16. Know and understand the basic theories and concepts of the chosen philological specialization, be able to apply them in professional activities. PLO 20. Apply knowledge of regional studies of German-speaking and English-speaking countries for successful communication and adequate translation.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
German language proficiency at level B1 or higher.
Course content
The course consists of lectures with interactive elements and practical instruction. The course material is divided into three blocks: basic teaching principles of regional studies, orientation and deepening knowledge in the areas of: economic geography, history, politics, language (basic knowledge of standard varieties and dialects), social issues, culture, and media. An oral presentation and/or an essay on a regional studies topic (see topic list), as well as an oral final exam, are envisaged as the basis for evaluation. To optimally achieve the learning objectives, the practical instruction takes place in small groups (1st and 2nd group).

Assessment methods and criteria
The course concludes with a credit in the form of an oral conversation. In addition, as a basis for assessment: an oral presentation and/or an essay on a regionally relevant topic or the preliminary exam (test or oral examination of the course material).
