5. Know and apply the basic concepts, theories and methods of religious studies in professional activities. 7. Prerequisites and co-requisites
Before starting this course, students must meet the general knowledge and skills requirements for higher education. To be able to navigate the peculiarities of the historical and religious context of the formation of Kyiv Christianity and its peculiarities, to be able to apply the Sophia tradition of the Kyiv Christian heritage in the analysis of the development of Orthodoxy and the union processes in Ukraine, to justify one's own worldview position regarding the Sophia methodology, to use information and communication technologies. To have basic skills of scientific research and information management, critical attitude and forecasting regarding the sophistication of Kyiv Christianity as a theoretical understanding of philosophical and theological self-sufficiency; use of foreign language professional informative sources.
Course content
The study discipline "Sophism of Kyiv Christianity" belongs to the disciplines of free choice of students and is taught in the VII semester of the bachelor's degree. Focused on the study of the subject, structure and history of the Sophia tradition of antiquity, Gnosticism, Neoplatonism, Old Testament and New Testament texts, as well as a religious analysis of the Sofia features of Kyiv Christianity - such as early Christian orientation, evangelism, Paulinism, patriotism; the role of religion in the life of society and of an individual, the essence of Christianity as a phenomenon of spiritual culture, the history of various confessions and their mutual relations, the sophistry of our own people and contemporary problems of religious life in Ukrainian society. Studying the course involves clarifying from the point of view of religious studies the issues of the origin and evolution of the Sophia teaching, its main interpretations in the history of culture and Christian belief on the basis of theological, philosophical, scientific concepts and approaches.
