Learning outcomes
The student should know the basic principles and protocols of transmission data in the network; differences and features of routers compared to switches; principles of building modern local networks.
The student must be able to make decisions on the choice of protocols and principles of configuring network equipment; choose architecture and hardware for building small and medium-sized networks; perform subnetting and calculate the number of devices in each of them. Model the principles of addressing by device types; perform basic network equipment settings; diagnose state of operation of devices and network interfaces.
Form of study
Full-time form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
The educational discipline "Computer networks" is based on a cycle of disciplines of professional and practical training, in particular, "Discrete mathematics", "Basics of hardware and software", "English language".
Course content
The discipline program examines the principles of data transmission in the network. Consideration of the principles of data transmission is based on the study of the protocols used for this purpose. The basis for understanding the principles of protocol operation is based on consideration of header formats and the purpose of each of the fields. Fields of protocol headers reveal possibilities for the purpose of each of the protocols and their scope of application. Addressing of devices in the network is an important component of data transmission. Addressing is used at different levels of the OSI model. The most significant addressing in computer networks is: the physical address of the device, the logical address of the device, and the address of the application at the transport layer of the OSI model. Understanding the principles of logical addressing is based on consideration of such concepts as: device address, network address, broadcast address, network mask, principles of subnetting.

Assessment methods and criteria
Semester assessment: an academic semester has one meaningful module. Mandatory for admission to credit is: performing laboratory work with a grade of at least 20 and writing a modular control paper with a score of at least 10.
Final evaluation - in the form of credit; the form of assessment is written. The written work consists of a test, the questions are evaluated according to the coefficients depending on them complexities In total, you can get from 0 to 40 points for the credit. The condition for achieving a positive grade for a discipline is to obtain at least 60 points, the grade for credit cannot be less than 20 points.
