2. To analyze, comment and summarize scientific and analytical texts of culturological format. 4.To know and understand theoretical approaches to definition of culture, its manifestations and forms of existence. 3. To create logically and structurally organized texts on cultural studies, according to the specialization. 15.To communicate freely on professional issues orally and in writing in the official and foreign languages, taking into account the purpose of communication and social and cultural features of its context.

Full-time form

1. Be familiar with main tenses and grammar constructions of the foreign language, and have sufficient vocabulary stock. 2. Be able to express one’s thoughts in speaking/ writing in English.

Module 1. “Beginnings of Ancient Greek philosophy. Thales. Heraclites. Democritus and Leucippus. Sophists and Socrates. Plato.” Grammar: Revision of present and past tenses and future forms. Module 2. “Aristotle. Diogenes. Epicureanism. Stoics. Skeptics.” Grammar: Passive Voice. Modal Verbs. Reported Speech. Verb Patterns.

Practical classes, self-study

1. Speaking activities in class: 10 / 16 points 2. Written activities in class: 5 / 8 points 3. Essay: 2 / 4 points 4. Presentation: 2 / 4 points 5. Module test: 5 / 8 points Final assessment for each module is the sum of points that reflect all corresponding learning outcomes and amounts to maximum 40 points. The final sum of the points is calculated as a simple accumulating sum of points obtained for the module tests and pass or fail exam. The latter can yield maximum 20 points, with the total of 100 points maximum.
