Learning outcomes
PLO 4. Use professional arguments to convey information, ideas, problems and ways to solve them to specialists and non-specialists in the field of economic activity.
PLO 6. Apply appropriate economic-mathematical and statistical methods and models to solve economic problems.
PLO 12. Identify sources of information and understand the methodology for determining and methods of obtaining socio-economic data, collect and analyze the necessary information, calculate economic and social indicators.
PLO 18. Perform interdisciplinary analysis of socio-economic phenomena and processes in one or more professional areas.
PLO 20. Use information and communication technologies to solve socio-economic problems, prepare and submit analytical reports.
Form of study
Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Know the theoretical foundations of scientific knowledge; the law of large numbers, probability theory and mathematical statistics, especially statistical hypothesis testing; scientific principles of ensuring the quality of statistical information.
2. Have the skills to plan and organize statistical observation of complex socio-demographic processes, ensure the accuracy of sample estimates, dissemination of sample results to the general population and create a reliable information support for management decisions.
Course content
Sample surveys are widely used in the modern world in all spheres of public life: product quality assessment, opinion polls, marketing research and more. The educational task is to form knowledge and skills of organization of sample observations, substantiation of sample design and ensuring the accuracy of sample estimates, dissemination of sample results to the general population and creating reliable information support for management decisions. The main attention is paid to the development of the sample observation program and sample design, substantiation of the adequate nature of the phenomenon of the type and method of sample survey, determination of the sample size depending on the structure and volume of the population, type of selection and acceptable data accuracy.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The purpose of the discipline is to master the methods and practical skills of forming sample sets, the results of which can provide the necessary accuracy of data with minimal cost. The task of the discipline is to study: the general methodology of sample surveys, methodological provisions for forming the basis of the sample and methods of selection of population units for the survey, optimization of sample design, ensuring the reliability of sample surveys.
Assessment methods and criteria
Forms of student assessment: (max. 100 points / min. 60 points)
1. Performing practical exercises during seminars, which take place on a schedule - 30 points / 18 points
2. Preparation and defense of an individual calculation and analytical project - 30 points / 18 points
3. Preparation of the presentation - 10 points / 6 points
4. Test modular work - 10 points / 6 points.
5. Final test - 20 points / 12 points.
