Learning outcomes
PR04. Solve complex problems in the field of biology, generate and evaluate ideas. PR06. Analyze biological phenomena and processes at the molecular, cellular, organismal, population-species and biosphere levels in terms of basic general scientific knowledge, as well as using special modern research methods. PR12. Use innovative approaches to solve complex problems of biology under uncertain conditions and requirements. PR17. Apply modern learning technologies for teaching special subjects. PR20. On the basis of in-depth knowledge of natural sciences to form an idea of the laws of individual and historical development biological systems at different levels of the organization, the role of systemic processes in their formation, functioning and plasticity, features of their cooperative interaction, as well as the systemic organization of living things.
Form of study
Full-time form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Know the classification of Baltimore viruses, the structure of simple and complex viruses, molecular features of virus reproduction and general mechanisms of their adsorption, general stages of lytic and lysogenic development of viruses. 2. Be able to morphological parameters and biochemical composition among many biological objects to identify representatives belonging to non-cellular life forms (kingdom Vira); laboratory conditions on a sensitive test culture to determine the titer of the virus by the method of Grace and Appelman, apply the method of electron microscopy to determine morphology and size virus. 3. Have basic skills to work with viruses in sterile conditions, skills to work with bacterial cell culture in both liquid and solid media.
Course content
The discipline is a component of the educational program of professional training of specialists of the educational level "Master". The course is a free choice of the student (choice of blocks) in the specialization "Virology". The discipline is a basic discipline that covers the issues of features and diversity of archaea viruses, mycoplasmas and cyanobacteria, methods of their research. The course is designed to summarize the student's understanding of the basic methods of working with prokaryotic viruses. To form a system of abilities and skills from the peculiarities of interaction with sensitive hosts.
