PLO 2. To demonstrate an adequate level of mastery of national and foreign languages to perform written and spoken communication, namely in the situations of professional and academic communication; to present the results of their studies in these national and foreign languages. PLO 6. To use knowledge on expressive, emotive, logical language means and speech techniques, principles of intercultural management in order to achieve an intended pragmatic result and organize successful communication. PLO 14. To create, analyze, and edit texts of various genres and styles.

Full-time form

Proficiency in Ukrainian language at the C2/native level, proficiency in German language at the B2 level and above; knowledge of the systems of German and Ukrainian languages; knowledge of basic concepts of translation studies.

The discipline consists of two main parts. The first part provides a systematic overview of the theoretical aspects of consecutive (bidirectional) interpretation, while the second part focuses on practical tasks aimed at mastering consecutive (bidirectional) interpretation techniques. The discipline concludes with a final examination at the end of the semester. The theoretical foundations cover topics such as the typology and scope of consecutive interpretation, the peculiarities of the communicative situation in consecutive interpretation, the competencies of an interpreter, text characteristics in consecutive interpretation, the role of non-verbal communication methods, and the techniques of consecutive interpretation. The second part offers tasks for consecutive one- and two-way interpretation based on authentic materials such as interviews, short speeches, presentations, and more. Special attention is given to the use of linguistic clichés and standardized expressions depending on the communicative intention of the speakers.

Practical classes, independent work.

The semester's final grade is determined by the points earned by the student for the designated types of learning and assessment methods outlined in the curriculum (maximum of 70 points). The minimum number of points required for a positive final grade is 42. Additionally, there are points allocated for the final examination (maximum of 30 points), which is conducted in the form of an oral examination. The minimum passing grade for the final examination is 18 points (60% of the maximum score) and is added to the semester's points. The structure of the final examination consists of a theoretical question (see the provided list of questions below, maximum of 5 points) and an oral bidirectional interpretation of an interview (maximum of 25 points). Throughout the semester, participation in discussions, answering questions, completion of tasks in simulations, and the performance of practical individual and group assignments are evaluated.
