Form of study
Full-time form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful completion of Bioorganic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cytology, Biophysics courses. 2. Knowledge of the theoretical foundations of bioorganic chemistry and biochemistry of lipids, proteins and carbohydrates - the main structural components of biological membranes, principles of structure and functioning / membrane organelles (plasma membrane, endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus, nucleus, mitochondrion, peroxisome, lysosome), biochemistry of enzymes, the role of membrane receptors in the transmission of extracellular signals into the cell, types of intercellular contacts, understanding of the terms "reactive oxygen species", "antioxidant", "lipid peroxidation". 3. Mastering the skills of working with devices used in practical biochemistry.
Course content
The discipline "Structure and functions of biological membranes" acquaints students with modern views on the biochemical composition and molecular structure of the plasma membrane and membranes of intracellular organelles, with the features of the structure of specific membrane areas - lipid rafts and caveolae, with modern methods of isolation and research of individual biological membranes and their components , with the biochemical mechanisms by which membranes realize their functions (transport, receptor, formation of intercellular contacts), with the processes underlying free radical damage to biological membranes, as well as with the involvement of these cellular structures in the implementation of various forms of cell death.
