Learning outcomes
PR04. Understand the basic terms, concepts, principles, theories and laws in the field of biological sciences and on the boundaries of subject areas. PR06. Apply the principles of taxonomy, methods of detection and identification of non-cellular life forms of prokaryotes and eukaryotes. PR07. Demonstrate knowledge of structural organization of biological systems at the molecular level of the organization. PR08. Demonstrate knowledge of fundamental biological processes, structure and functions of living organisms. PR14. Use knowledge and understanding of the basics of general ecology, the principles of optimal nature management and nature protection PR15. Apply in professional activities methods for determining the structural and functional characteristics of biological systems at different levels of the organization.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful mastering of disciplines "Botany", "Plant Physiology", "Biochemistry", "Root nutrition of plants", "Biology of medicinal plants", "Evolutionary morphology and anatomy of flowers", "Molecular taxonomy of plants", "Modern information technology in Biology "," Statistical Methods in Biology "," General Genetics ", deepening the acquired knowledge and skills of practical scientific and experimental work during the" Educational Practice in Botany and Zoology ". 2. Ability to independently apply knowledge of botany, anatomy and physiology of plants, biochemistry, biotechnology, etc. disciplines, perform laboratory and practical work, work with scientific and methodological literature. 3. Possession of basic skills in working with materials and equipment used in biological and chemical laboratories.
Course content
The course consists of sections on: the structure and function of the root system of plants as an organ of absorption and metabolism; mechanisms of absorption and transportation of mineral elements, metabolism and physiological and biochemical significance of the most important macro- and microelements; ecological significance of root secretions, diagnostics of plant nutrition, physiological bases of fertilizer use; main classes of pharmacologically valuable, toxic, protective, biologically active substances of medicinal plants and methods of their determination, conditions of synthesis and accumulation in plant tissues and environment under conditions of in vitro cultivation; taxonomic diversity of flowering plants, principles of their classification and identification, practical significance and rarity component of flowering plants in the flora of Ukraine.
