Learning outcomes
Р03. Skill to describe chemical data in symbolic form. Р04. Knowledge to understand basic patterns and types of chemical reactions as well as their characteristics. Р05. Knowledge to understand the relationship between structure and properties of substances. Р07. Skill to apply basic principles of quantum mechanics to describe the structure of atoms, molecules, and chemical bonds. Р10. Skill to apply basic principles of thermodynamics and chemical kinetics to solve professional tasks. Р11. Skill to describe properties of aliphatic, aromatic, heterocyclic, and organometallic compounds, to explain nature and behavior of functional groups in organic molecules. Р12. To know main synthesis pathways in organic chemistry, including interconversion of functional group and formation of carbon-carbon, carbon-heteroatom bonds.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Know organic chemistry within the program of the course "Organic Chemistry". 2. Have the skills to write organic reactions within the program of the course "Organic Chemistry". 3. Have the skills to write the mechanisms of organic reactions within the course program "Organic Chemistry".
Course content
Typical examples of electronic and spatial structure of organic compounds and effects on chemical properties. Energy and kinetics of chemical reactions, methods for studying the mechanisms of organic reactions and types of intermolecular interactions. Mechanisms of reactions of electrophilic attachment to multiple bonds. Mechanisms of elimination reactions and reactions involving carbocations and radicals. Reactions of carbanions. Mechanisms of reactions controlled by the symmetry of molecular orbitals.

Assessment methods and criteria
Semester control includes homework and tests. The evaluation is based on a 100-point scale. The maximum / minimum number of points that can be obtained by a student during the semester assessment is 60 points / 36 points. The final assessment is conducted in the form of an exam. The maximum / minimum number of points that can be obtained by a student in the exam is 40 points / 24 points.
