Learning outcomes

Students should be familiar with the basic concepts of probability theory and have the skills to work with a personal computer in a Windows environment.

Module 1. Measuring and descriptive statistics 1. Mathematical methods in sociology. 2. Measuring of social variables. Measurement scales. 3. Univariate analysis. Frequency tables. Central tendency and variation. Module 2. Bivariate analysis. Regression model. 4. Bivariate analysis. Cross tables. Measures of association. 5. Correlation analysis 6. Linear regression model. Module 3. Sampling methods and statistical inference. 7. Sampling methods in social research 8. Statistical inference. Point and interval estimation. 9. Statistical hypothesis testing 10. Cluster analysis Module 4. Multivariate analysis. 11. Factor analysis 12. Scale reliability analysis 13. Presenting the results of empirical data analysis

Assessment methods and criteria
- semester assessment: semester 3 1. Modular test (on topics 1-3), compulsory - up to 20 points 2. Modular test (on topics 4-6), compulsory - up to 20 points 3. Oral presentation at the practical lesson - up to 5 points semester 4 1. Modular test (on topics 7-10), compulsory - up to 20 points 2. Paper based on data analysis (after topic 11), compulsory - up to 20 points 3. Oral presentation at the practical lesson - up to 3 points If the sum of points gained as a result of all forms of semester assessment exceeds 60, the grade for the semester assessment is equal to 60 points. - forms of final evaluation • in the semester 3 - credit; • in the semester 4 - examination, covering all topics of the discipline; score up to 40 points • the grade for the discipline is the grade in semester 4
