Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Be able to apply theoretical knowledge and practical skills acquired during the study of academic disciplines in previous semesters. Have basic skills in preparing buffer solutions and nutrient media, obtaining standardized cell suspensions with determination of cell viability, assessing the main physicochemical constants of solutions and suspensions, etc. 2. Have basic skills in working with biological material, chemical reagents and equipment used in biochemical laboratories. 3. Be able to apply the methodology for analyzing the results of biological research.
Course content
"Laboratory practical course in biology" is an educational discipline aimed at developing basic practical skills in students necessary for conducting biological research and performing experimental work in biological laboratories. Within the framework of the educational discipline, students master methods for analyzing the functional activity of blood cells and protein molecules, methods for assessing colonization resistance as a barrier protection of the body against infections and one of the functions of the symbiotic microbiota, and a methodology for assessing the immune reactivity of the body. Special attention is paid to the study of the processes of platelet activation and aggregation under the influence of various inducers and protein preparations of natural origin. Separate classes are devoted to assessing the degree of hemolysis of erythrocytes under the influence of substances of various chemical nature, studying biological compatibility, and also studying the role of extracellular hemoglobin in the development of thrombotic complications. In the assessment of colonization resistance, special attention is paid to the study of the buccal epithelium as a model for characterizing the immune reactivity of the oral cavity, as well as the digestive tract as a whole. The methodology for assessing immune reactivity is mastered using the example of the analysis of circulating immune complexes.
