Learning outcomes
To know: basic concepts and terms of theoretical petrophysics; classification of methods and their studied parameters; methods of working with laboratory equipment; stages of laboratory research to determine the petrophysical characteristics of rocks; principles of processing and geological interpretation of petrophysical data. Measure, process and describe the results of petrophysical observations and explain their relationship with geological and anthropogenic objects. Apply physical parameters of rocks to analyze natural processes and geological composition. Be able to organize a set of petrophysical studies to effectively solve the problem. Understand personal responsibility for professional decisions that can provide information about the geological environment.
Form of study
Full-time form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Knowledge of the theoretical foundations of geophysical methods. 2. Possess basic skills in working with a personal computer. 3. Possess skills in mathematical statistics.
Course content
The program of the discipline focuses on the study of physical properties of rocks and methods of their determination. The petrophysical parameters of various physical groups are considered. The interrelationships between physical and geological characteristics of rocks are explained using real-life examples. Applications of petrophysics are characterized by the results of interpretation. The methodology of complex processing of petrophysical data for mineral prospecting is included in the review.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures and laboratory classes, independent work of students.
Assessment methods and criteria
The control is carried out according to the module-rating system and includes: 6 laboratory works (where students have to demonstrate the quality of their knowledge and solve the tasks using the methods and means specified by the teacher) and 7 written tests. The final assessment is conducted in the form of a written test. An applicant is not allowed to take the test if he or she scored less than 24 points during the semester. The results of students' learning activities are evaluated on a 100-point scale.
