Learning outcomes
Know: basic concepts and terms of radiometry, classification of nuclear geophysics methods and the law of radioactive decay; methods of work with field radiometric instruments and laboratory equipment; units of measurement of radioactivity and intensity of radioactive radiation fields; principles of interaction of heavy and light charged particles, as well as gamma radiation with matter; principles of operation of ionization, scintillation, semiconductor and track detectors; principles of construction of gamma spectrometers and metrological support of radiometric surveys. Apply radiometric testing of rocks and ores at the place of their occurrence. Use radiometric methods to study the geological structure, prospecting and exploration of ores and non-radioactive minerals. Process radiometric data, build maps and sections of radiometric parameters.
Form of study
Full-time form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
Knowledge of theoretical foundations of geophysics. Possess basic skills in working with a personal computer.
Course content
The course focuses on radiometry and nuclear geophysics, as well as the principles of instrumentation and measurement techniques. Approaches to solving direct and inverse problems are considered. The methods of qualitative and quantitative interpretation are explained on individual anomalies. The areas of application of geophysical methods are described using real-life examples. The general principles of setting radiometric and nuclear geophysical tasks, an overview of ways of their implementation and efficiency are included in the consideration.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
TLectures, laboratory classes, independent work.
Assessment methods and criteria
The control includes laboratory work and 2 written tests. The final assessment is conducted in the form of a written and oral examination. The results of students' learning activities are assessed on a 100-point scale. A student is not allowed to take part in the final assessment if he or she scored less than 20 points during the semester. During the semester, a student can score from 36 to 60 points. During the exam, a student can get from 24 to 40 points.
