Learning outcomes
To know the essence of population and settlement geography as a basic geographical discipline that studies the geospatial patterns of human life in its demographic and socio-economic aspects; terminology of population and settlement geography; demographic, social, ethnographic, economic characteristics of the population structure in the world and in Ukraine; theories of settlement and settlement, world cities, features of population settlement, the course of urbanization and ruralization processes in the world and in Ukraine. To be able to use information sources on the state of the population, settlement; to apply methods of demogeography to determine the dynamics of population size, natural growth, migrations, sex-age, social, ethnic structure of the population, employment and their dynamics; to determine regional features of demographic processes; to identify the nature of settlement; to determine types of settlements, classify them according to various characteristics.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful completion of the courses: "Social Geography", "Geographical Local Studies and Regional Studies". 2. Knowledge of the theoretical foundations of social geography, basic geographical terminology, understanding of the role of population and settlement in the formation of geographical processes in the landscape shell, knowledge of the features of the course of demographic, ethnic and ecological processes in countries of the world of various types. 3. Possess elementary skills in using Internet search systems, Microsoft office software, and the ability to analyze the data obtained.
Course content
The course consists of two structural parts. The first is devoted to the study of theoretical provisions and results of analytical research on population geography: stages of settlement, geography of races and ethnogeography, geodemographic features of reproduction (natural and mechanical population movement), population structure, familiarization with modern population theories and UN regional forecasts, qualitative (by HDI) and socio-economic (level and quality of life) characteristics. The second module considers the geography of population settlement, namely: classification of settlements (by various characteristics), their typology, forms of settlement, processes of formation of settlement systems, agglomeration and urbanization, theory of world cities, basic provisions of geourbanism, features of settlement in rural areas and provides a description of these processes in the world and in Ukraine.

Assessment methods and criteria
The level of achievement of all planned learning outcomes is determined by the results of writing test tasks, performing practical work and writing an examination paper. Semester assessment: Max. number of points that can be obtained by a student during the semester 60 points; Test work: RN 1.1-1.2 (knowledge) 30 points/15 points. Practical work: RN 2.1-2.3. (knowledge and skills) 45/20 points. Independent work: RN 3.1.-3.2.;4.1.-4.2. (communication, autonomy and responsibility) 25 points/20 points. Final assessment: exam. The maximum number of points that can be obtained by a student is 40 points.
