P01. Understand key chemical concepts, basic facts, concepts, principles and theories related to natural and life sciences and earth sciences, as well as chemical technologies at a level sufficient for their application in professional activities and to enable further deep understanding of specialized field of chemistry.
P04. Understand the basic laws and types of chemical reactions and their characteristics.
P05. Understand the relationship between the structure and properties of substances.
P08. Know the principles and procedures of physical, chemical, physico-chemical research methods, typical equipment and devices.
P13. Analyze and evaluate data, synthesize new ideas related to chemistry and its applications.
P18. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of basic facts, concepts, principles and theories in chemistry

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Know the basic concepts of inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, chemistry and physical chemistry of macromolecular compounds.
2. Have basic knowledge of general chemistry.
3. Know the basic concepts of physical methods of research and identification of the structure of compounds.
Course content
The main theoretical principles of physicochemical bases of polymer aging - their photo- and thermal destruction, knowledge of the types of destruction and their characteristics, classes of photosensitizers, the mechanism of light stabilization of polymers. The main classes of stabilizers of polymeric materials, special methods of stabilization. Aging methods to determine the stability of polymeric materials.
Methods of obtaining polymers. Polymerization in bulk. Polymerization in the gas phase. Solvent polymerization. Suspension polymerization. Emulsion polymerization. Polycondensation in dispersion media. Polyethylene production. Polypropylene production. Production of polyisobutylene. Polystyrene production. Copolymers of styrene. Production of polyvinyl chloride.

Assessment methods and criteria
Semester control includes homework, tests and defense of practical work. The evaluation is based on a 100-point system. The maximum / minimum number of points that can be obtained by a student during the semester assessment is 60 points / 36 points. The final evaluation is conducted in the form of a test. The maximum / minimum number of points that can be obtained by a student on a credit of 20 points / 14 points.
