Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful performance in this course builds on prior knowledge and language skills acquired through the courses, such as Methods of Teaching Foreign Languages, Testing and Assessment of Languages and Literatures, English as a Foreign Language (English level B2), Pedagogy and Psychology.
Students are also expected to be B2+ possess essential knowledge about: theory of building foreign language skills; functions of language assessment; forms of implementing testing and assessment on different level of foreign language learning; principles of using various testing/assessment techniques; principles of implementation of testing/assessment in the course of instruction. The course also envisages students’ ability to plan and implement the development of test tasks of elementary degree of difficulty, such as tasks in lexicogrammar, reading test tasks (matching questions/ sentences/headings with gaps in text).
Course content
The objectives of the course include enabling consolidation of theory of language testing and assessment; familiarization of students with up-to-date developments of testing/assessment as part of foreign language instruction; fostering test development skills aimed at assessing lexicogrammar and other language skills.
Abstract. The course aims to develop students’ competence in developing and administering formative and summative assessments in profession-oriented high school. Mastering the content of the course will enable students’ informed decisions about consistent use of test task types in the manner appropriate for a particular testing situation: develop test tasks of various formats and check their quality via trialling/piloting.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course is delivered in English through the lectures, practical assignment and autonomous work, and teaching methods: academic discussion, research work, project work. Major activities performed by the students include discussion of literature sources, discussion of tasks of the assigned online courses, presentation and discussion of the self-developed test tasks, presentation of a project as well as two module test papers.
Assessment methods and criteria
With a 100-point assessment system used, the semester final grade is a sum of the points earned for the formative assessment which is delivered through discussion of literature sources - 24 max, and a min of 12 points; presentation and discussion of the self-developed test tasks - 16 max, and a min of 8 points (completed as independent learning task); individual assignment - 24 max, and a min of 18 points (completed as independent learning task); presentation of a project - 16 max, and a min of 10 points, two module test papers - 20 max, and a min of 12 points. The maximum distribution is carried out according to the following algorithm: 100 points (100%) – semester control. Assessment on learning outcomes: LO 1.1-1.5; LO 2.1-2.4.
