Program Learning Outcomes PLO 2. Know the evolutionary stages and trends of the Ukrainian literary language; represent the development of Ukrainian language studies in the world context; use the knowledge and skills in professional activities. Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful performance in this course builds on prior awareness of the development process of a language, thinking, their social status and research potential presented in different styles of writing as well as of the correlations between them. Students are expected to possess essential knowledge of practical use of linguistic competence, knowledge of Ukrainian language, its styles and functions; to have skills in linguistic text interpretation, its functional resource and communication capacity.
Course content
This course aims to provide students with knowledge of modern evolution theory of nature, thinking and culture, in which a language acts as a principal part of argumentation over the evolution of human intelligence – a language as a mental phenomenon, a language as homo sapiens essence, a language as a function and transformation of human consciousness in culture, a language as a process of social development. The course systematizes students' knowledge about the correlation between language and thinking, their social status and research potential presented in different styles of writing. Moreover, the course provides the evidence of philosophical, psychological, sociolinguistic concepts of human intellectual activity as well as the place in these concepts of linguistic argumentation; allows to develop criteria, principles and analysis methods of Ukrainian texts from the point of view of intellectually definable criteria of the functional aim in communication; shapes the scientific outlook oriented towards modern theories of integral presentation of intellect and its social and communicative manifestation.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course is delivered in Ukrainian through a mixture of lectures, practical sessions and independent learning. Major activities performed by the students include classroom assignments, a scientific report, a progress test and a final test. During the term a student can score a maximum of 100 points and a minimum of 60 points for these activities that are components of formative assessment.
Assessment methods and criteria
With a 100-point assessment system used, a final grade for the course is a sum of the points earned for the formative assessment which is delivered through classroom discussion - a max of 35 and a min of 20 points; scientific report - a max of 20 and a min of 10 points (completed as independent learning task); progress test - a max of 20 and a min of 14 points; final test - a max of 25 and a min of 16 points. The maximum distribution is carried out according to the following algorithm: 100 points (100%) – semester control. Assessment on learning outcomes: LO 1.1-1.3; LO 2.1-2.4; LO 3.1-3.3; LO 4.1-4.2.
