Programme Learning Outcomes: PLO 6. Use instruments of a democratic state governed by the rule of law in professional and public activities. PLO 12. PLO 12. Prerequisites and performance requirements Students are expected to possess knowledge of the main stages and characteristics of the historical and cultural process; to have basic knowledge of the humanities and social sciences; to be able to collect and interpret information about social phenomena, processes, and events; determine the modern features of the coexistence of human communities in the conditions of globalization; plan and evaluate own work; use interactive and multimedia learning tools; to have basic skills of working with the humanities texts; critical analysis of political, economic, socio-cultural processes, events and phenomena.

Course description The course explores the concept of philosophical thought in its historical development and current state, with a fundamental way of understanding the foundations of human existence, knowledge, and activity, mediated by the features of the relevant sociocultural era. The course consists of 3 modules. Module 1 provides a holistic view of philosophical knowledge, its problems, concepts and categories, and structure. Module 2 explores the methodological role of philosophical knowledge in understanding ontological, epistemological, axiological, and social problems of existence. Module 3 focuses on the philosophical aspects of language, the main patterns of development of nature and society, and the place of man in the world. The discipline ends with an exam.

Classroom activities and teaching techniques The course is delivered in Ukrainian. It combines such forms of delivery as lectures, practical sessions, and independent work. The major activities the students are engaged in and further assessed are oral contributions to classroom discussions, independent work, and module tests. A student can earn a maximum of 60 and a minimum of 36 points for completing the listed activities. A detailed description of the assessment criteria of the coursework is shown in the course curriculum displayed on the website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology. The course ends with an examination.

Assessment A student’s final grade is based on a 100-point grading system. It is made up of the scores for the performance during the term (max. 60, min. 36 points) and the scores earned during the exam (max. 40, min. 24 points). The formative assessment considers oral contributions to classroom discussions (35 points), independent work (9 points), and module tests (16 points). The summative assessment is a written exam.
