Learning outcomes
The student must be able to logically and consistently formulate the basic physical principles and laws that determine the characteristics of the radiation of extragalactic objects and the processes occurring in them; interpret observational effects within the framework of models of an extragalactic object; be able to perform typical calculations related to the course material; independently work with educational and scientific literature on extragalactic astronomy, use extragalactic databases and other astroinformation resources.
Form of study
Full-time form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful knowledge of modern physics (mechanics, dynamics, molecular and nuclear physics, theoretical physics (statistical physics and thermodynamics, quantum mechanics), mathematical analysis, linear and tensor algebra, methods of mathematical physics, general astronomy, astrometry, practical astrophysics.
Course content
Visual and automatic morphological classification of galaxies, determination of kinematic and dynamical parameters of extragalactic sources, distribution of baryonic and dark matter, mass/luminosity ratio, elucidation of radiation sources in different spectral ranges responsible for various physical processes in galaxies and the intergalactic medium, methods for studying active galactic nuclei, methods for determining distances to galaxies, methods for determining the spatial distribution of large-scale structures of the Universe and their kinematic and dynamical properties, scenarios of galaxy formation and evolution on different cosmological scales.
