Form of study
Full-time form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. The student should be prepared to comprehend theoretical and practical information of various, non-standardised content. 2. A certain level of mobility and flexibility is critically important to simultaneously process theoretical and practical information of different quality and quantity (from law and economics; arts and international relations, etc.). 3. The necessity for self-analysis arises as there is a need to clarify which thematic specialisation topics, issues, and tasks best align with the student’s personality (in order to later choose the professional direction for in-depth study, where they can be most effectively realised).
Course content
The aim of the course is to provide comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge regarding the specifics of professional industry-specific journalism within thematic specialisations such as economics, politics, law, international relations, social issues, and arts. It forms a general understanding of how professional journalism reflects political, legal, international sociocultural, and artistic realities through methods and means. It provides theoretical knowledge regarding the specifics of each thematic specialisation (functions, principles of industry-specific journalism; specialised industry media and sections/departments within non-specialised media; creative and professional requirements for industry-specific journalists, etc.). It ensures elementary practical skills within specialised professional fields. The course provides a comprehensive set of knowledge and skills regarding various thematic fields of journalistic professional activity, contributing to the student’s broader professional opportunities in choosing a professional specialisation. This course lays the groundwork for maximum professional mobility for students who, on the one hand, gain universality through all thematic directions and, on the other hand, have the opportunity to test themselves in terms of suitability (their preferences, abilities, etc.) for a specific thematic specialisation.

Assessment methods and criteria
The assessment of students’ knowledge is conducted using a modular-rating system. Each thematic specialisation (economics, politics, law, international relations, social issues, arts) is autonomous and has its own forms of assessment. Throughout the study of each thematic specialisation, 50% of the emphasis is placed on classroom learning, and 50% on independent work. For each thematic specialisation, a student can earn a maximum of 100 points (60 points for seminars and independent work, 40 points for an exam, or 80 points for seminars and independent work, and 20 points for interim assessment if the thematic specialisation concludes with intermediate control). The recommended minimum for specialisations that end with an exam is 40 points, while the minimum threshold is 36 points.
