Learning outcomes
To know: Prerequisites for the emergence, characteristics and features of the phenomenon of mass culture. The main levels of mass culture. Definition of the concepts of mass, elite, popular and folk culture. Early theories of mass culture. Specifics of Marxist criticism of mass culture. The main theories of mass culture of the second half of the twentieth century. Practical dimensions of mass culture: music, literature, cinema. Be able to: Analyse manifestations of mass culture. Analyse products of popular culture. Understand the specific features and characteristics of mass culture. Communication: To use knowledge of foreign languages to analyse Internet information resources, read the latest cultural studies literature. Engage in debate on contemporary problems and prospects of mass culture. Autonomy and responsibility: Independently search for and critically process literature for the course.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Before studying this course, students should know the main stages and characteristics of the historical and cultural process; the main achievements of material and spiritual culture; the history of the formation and development of art, the peculiarities of functioning in the system of culture of a certain historical era. 2. Be able to collect and interpret information on cultural phenomena and phenomena, cultural processes and events; apply basic terms, categories and classifications of cultural studies in the analysis of socio-cultural phenomena and processes; explain the essence of the phenomenon of culture, its role in human life; 2. To have basic skills of scientific research and information management; critical attitude and forecasting in relation to cultural events and phenomena.
