Learning outcomes
PLO 01. To Apply the acquired theoretical knowledge and
practical skills to study natural and socio-territorial systems
at different levels of spatial organization.
PLO 03. Communicate freely on professional and scientific
issues in a foreign language.
PLO 07. Participate in the development of programs and
strategies for urban and regional development, territory planning
at various hierarchical levels.
PLO 09. Perform professional assessment of programmes,
strategies, and plans of territory development, their
geoecological and socio-economic expertise and
monitoring.
PLO 11. Assess possible risks, socio-economic, geoecological,
political and geopolitical consequences of implementing
management decisions in the field of nature use, urban and
regional development, recreation and tourism.

2. Knowledge of the theoretical foundations of political geography and geopolitics
Course content
Structurally, the discipline includes three components: mastering the conceptual apparatus:
geostrategy, the concept of "power", modern geopolitical and geoeconomic map of the world,
regions of power, "junction" and marginal regions; analysis of the geostrategic positioning of the
countries: the USA, Western Europe, East Asia, the Middle East; application of knowledge and
skills of geostrategic positioning in the context of globalization on the example of the country
(optional) in geopolitical, geoeconomic, geoecological and geocultural aspects.
Each example (state) is considered in terms of the state of national resources and their geopolitical
significance, the strength and structure of the economy, the stability of society, the level of culture
and science, position in regional and global communications networks and identifying vectors of
international policy.

Assessment methods and criteria
Classes are held in the form of lectures, seminars. The discipline ends with a pass/fail
examination.
During the semester, after the completion of the relevant topics, a blitz-test with open-ended questions is
conducted. To determine the level of achievement of learning outcomes under items 2 and 3, students present
the author's results of an individual task to assess the geostrategic positioning of the country of choice. For students who during the semester did not reach the minimum threshold level of assessment
(60% of the maximum possible number of points) for blitz-tests the test, which covers the relevant
issues of blitz-surveys, is conducted. The maximum grade for the final test may not exceed 40% of
the final grade (up to 40 points on a 100-point scale).
