Learning outcomes
To know: basic theoretical provisions of cultural studies; stages of cultural development, its features and patterns; major cultural regions of the world; basic forms of artistic culture; the main historical stages of the formation and development of the culture of the USA and Latin America. Be able to: evaluate historical events, objects of culture in terms of their impact on the formation of cultural values; analyse the heritage, components of the cultural identity of countries; collect, process, organise, summarise, systematise socio-cultural information using modern methods of analysis and information technology. Communication: present the results of research and independent work; conduct an examination of cultural heritage sites. Autonomy and responsibility: independently search for and critically process literature; apply theoretical and practical knowledge of cultural studies in making independent professional decisions in unpredictable conditions.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Students should know: - the main stages and characteristics of the historical and cultural process; - basic cultural theories and methods of cultural research; - basic cultural concepts and categories. 2. Students should be able to: - collect and interpret information on cultural phenomena; - apply basic terms, categories and classifications of cultural studies in the analysis of socio-cultural phenomena; - analyse works of art and design. 3. Students should have: - basic skills of scientific research and information management; - critical attitude to cultural and artistic events and phenomena.
Course content
Part 1: Culture of Latin America Topic 1: Cultural and historical typology of the Latin American cultural region. Topic 2. Regional unity and national identity of the culture of the Latin American region. The role of the ethnic factor in the formation of Latin American nations and their cultures. Analytical work on the primary source. Topic 3. The origin of the Indians in the context of the problem of cultural identity and cultural influence. Topic 4. Culture of pre-Columbian civilisations and their originality. Topic 5. Culture of Latin America in the colonial period and cultural symbiosis. Topic 6. The culture of Latin America in the era of national liberation struggle and bourgeois revolutions and the formation of national cultures of the Latin American region. Topic 7. Concepts of historical and cultural identity of Latin America. Analytical work on the primary source. Intermediate control work. Part 2. Culture of the USA Topic 8: The United States of America. Culture of the colonial period. Topic 9: All-American culture in the context of the acquisition and development of US state independence. Topic 10. "American Dream", "average American" and national psychology. Presentation of self-study. Topic 11. Contemporary culture of the United States.

Assessment methods and criteria
The final grade in the course (minimum 60, maximum 100 points) is the sum of the total number of points for semester work (minimum 48, maximum 80 points) and the final control work (minimum 12, maximum 20 points). Assessment of semester work: 1. Analytical work on primary sources - 16 / 28 points. 2. Presentation of independent research - 24 / 32 points. 3. Intermediate control work - 12 / 20 points The total grade for the semester consists of the points obtained for self-study (work with texts, research of values, writing of the text of recommendations). All types of work for the semester have a - maximum of 80 points - minimum of 48 points Final written test - 12 / 20 points
