Learning outcomes
To know: the principles of methodology for researching the history of American philosophy arguments and counterarguments for determining the identity of the work of representatives of American philosophy historiography of research on the American philosophical tradition issues of philosophical discussions between representatives of European and American philosophical traditions the list and structure of the outstanding works of the representatives of the American philosophical tradition Be able to: apply the methodology of research of the American philosophical tradition explain the key arguments and counterarguments for determining the originality of the work of representatives of American philosophy Communication: use knowledge of foreign languages to analyse information resources present research results participate in professional discussions Autonomy and responsibility: independently search for and critically process literature

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Before taking this course, students should know the history of European philosophy and world history. 2. Be able to carry out an independent analysis of the content of philosophical sources; apply modern methods of historical and philosophical research. 3. Possess basic skills of scientific research.

Immaterialism and empiricism of S. Johnson and J. Edwards. Philosophy of the American Enlightenment. Deism of B. Franklin and E. Allen. Philosophy of the American Enlightenment. Social and political views of T. Jefferson, T. Paine, T. Cooper. History of American philosophy of the XIX - XX centuries. Philosophy of American Romanticism. Reminiscences of German Idealism in the works of R. Emerson, H. Thoreau, W. Whitman. American idealism of J. Royce and personalism of B. Bone. American pragmatism: S. Pierce, W. James. Main trends in American philosophy of the late twentieth century - early twenty-first century.

The overall grade for the semester consists of points obtained for class work (oral presentations, additions and participation in discussions at seminars) and for self-study (notes on texts), and a midterm test. Assessment of semester work: 1. Oral report, additions and participation in seminar discussions -28 / 44 points 2. Self-study (text summary) - 10 / 16 points 3. Intermediate control work -10 / 20 points All types of work for the semester have - a maximum of 80 points - a minimum of 48 points Final written test - 12 / 20 points
