PLO 11. To know the principles, technologies and methods of creating spoken and written texts of various genres and styles in national, classical and foreign languages. PLO 13. To analyze and to interpret ancient literature works, to determine their specificity and the position in the literary process. PLO 15. To carry out linguistic, literary and special philological analysis of ancient Greek and Latin languages texts of various styles and genres. PLO 21. To have the skills of translating ancient Greek and Latin texts of various styles and genres. PLO 22. To understand the role and the place of classical languages and literatures in the context of the European linguistic and cultural space, in the development strategies of the latest scientific paradigm and modern civilization.

Full-time form

Students must know general information about the historical and cultural context of antiquity, the basics of literary terminology, the basic scope of ancient mythology, grammar and syntax of ancient Greek and Latin; have basic skills and abilities to track the evolution of literary genres and their reception in the modern period, analyse and interpret literary works, read and translate from ancient Greek and Latin.

The aim of the discipline is to acquaint students with the phenomenon of ancient theatre, its formation, history and reception in modern times, methods of research, analysis and interpretation of dramatic works of ancient Greek and Roman literature with the use of original texts. Abstract: the subject of the discipline is the study of the tendencies of formation of ancient theatre, the emergence and evolution of the genres of ancient Greek and Roman drama, the influence of ancient drama on the development of world literature, European theatre, art, modern film drama and cinema. The discipline provides an understanding of the problems, poetics and artistic style of ancient drama; develops skills in literary analysis and interpretation of dramatic works using original texts, translations of tragedies and comedies from ancient Greek and Latin.

Learning activities: lectures, practical classes, consultations, independent work. Teaching methods: explanatory and illustrative method, method of problem-based learning (problem lecture), heuristic method, research method, educational discussion, creative tasks. Forms of study: oral answer, addition, participation in the discussion, creative task (essay, reader's review), test with open answers.

The semester grade is formed by the points obtained by the student in the process of mastering the material from the entire course. The total grade for the semester consists of the points obtained for classroom work (oral answers, additions and participation, open-ended test), independent creative work (essay/reader's review) and the final test. Students submit the creative assignment no later than the last lecture week. The total number of points in the discipline (maximum 100 points, minimum 60 points) is determined as the sum of points for systematic work during the semester.
