Learning outcomes
PLO 2. Process information effectively: collect relevant information from a variety of sources, including professional literature and electronic databases, critically analyse and interpret it, organize, classify and systematize it. PLO 8. Know and understand the system of language, the general properties of literature as the art of word, the history of the Spanish and English languages and literatures, to be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 13. Analyse and interpret works of Ukrainian and foreign fiction and oral folk art, determine their specific features and place in literary process. PLO 15. Carry out linguistic, literary and translation analysis of texts of various styles and genres. PLO 19. Have the skills to participate in scientific and/or applied research in the field of philology.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Before starting this course, students must successfully master the courses on the history of foreign literature taught during the first two semesters; to know the main periods and tendencies of Spanish literature in the previous historical and cultural periods, including the Western European cultural context; to be able to determine the place of each literary and artistic period within the general development of Spanish literature; characterize the specifics of a certain cultural and artistic era; analyze key works in the context of the works of the main Spanish writers; distinguish specific and universal features of national culture and literature, apply basic concepts in the analysis of literary phenomena and processes; plan and evaluate own work; use interactive and multimedia tools; sharpen skills in analyzing literary texts and making scientific research; using foreign language informative sources; interacting and cooperating in learning process.
Course content
The course is aimed at forming and deepening the system of knowledge of the literary process in Spain and the countries of Latin America of the 20th - the beginning of the 21st centuries in the socio-cultural context of the outlined period. Throughout the course learners will be encouraged to develop knowledge of set of notions related to leading literary phenomena and tendencies, the philosophical and aesthetic basis of the development of modern Spanish-language literature; reveal the peculiarities of artistic skill within the main genres and their main representatives; improve the skills in literary analysis of Spanish and Latin American fictional works using a set of modern interpretive methodologies. The course encourages students, future translators from Spanish and English, to use the acquired knowledge in further professional activities, in particular, in the field of literary translation.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Assessment methods and criteria
The ongoing control comprises students’ performance at seminar classes (max 32\ min 18 points), quick serveys (max 6\ min 4 points); module test (max 10 \min 6 points); presentation of the coursework (max 12 \ min 8 points). Total final assessment is max 60 \ min 36 points. Final assessment form is written exam (the exam paper consists of two questions according to the subject of two content parts of the course, each question is evaluated with a maximum of 20 points). Exam mark is max 40\min 24 points. Students must meet the standard required for the lowest grade (36 points) to be permitted to take an exam. The lowest grade to be assessed at the course is to have 24 points for exam.
