PLO 2. Process information effectively: collect relevant information from a variety of sources, including professional literature and electronic databases, critically analyse and interpret it, organize, classify and systematize it. PLO 16. Know and understand basic concepts and theories in the field of translation studies, be able to apply them in professional activities. PLO 20. Outline the main problems of translation disciplines, explain their interrelationship in a holistic system of knowledge.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful completion of the first part of the integrated discipline "Introduction to the Specialty. Part 1 Introduction to Linguistics". Knowledge of the theoretical foundations of linguistics, familiarity with its traditional and new areas and disciplines, concepts and methods that determine the current state of theory and practice of language learning.
Course content
The course is aimed at laying the theoretical foundations and preparing for practical translation activities, independent development of specific issues of translation theory and practice, as well as for studying specialized translation courses provided by the educational program. It belongs to the fundamental and professionally oriented disciplines. The lecture part of the course is devoted to the presentation of the main issues of translation, including general problems of the history and theory of translation, the development of translation studies as a separate field of knowledge. Seminar classes are devoted to the issues covered in the lecture course in relation to a specific pair of languages (French and Ukrainian, Spanish and Ukrainian, Italian and Ukrainian, Portuguese and Ukrainian); this part involves a more substantive acquaintance with the Translation Studies literature on the most important aspects of the course, as well as the preparation of an essay on one of the proposed topics and an oral presentation based on it.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Assessment methods and criteria
During the semester, lectures and seminars are held on the relevant topics, where the assessment is carried out in accordance with the types of work and forms of control described in clause 7.1 of the Program of the discipline (blitz quizes on the topics of lectures; preparation of an outline of recommended literature, oral response, preparation of an essay, oral presentation of the essay). Students who have scored a total of less than the critical-calculated min- of 36 points are not allowed to take the exam. These students are given a final semester test or essays on the course topics are evaluated. The max. grade for additional forms of assessment may not exceed 40% of the max. total score for the semester - 24 points. The semester final grade is formed by the points received by the student during the semester and the points received at the exam, the max. distribution is carried out according to the following algorithm: 60 points (60%) - semester control and 40 points (40%) - exam.
