Learning outcomes
PLO 3. To apply modern methods and techniques, namely informational, in order
to perform successful and effective professional activity and guarantee the quality
of research in a specific linguistic field.
PLO 6. To use knowledge on expressive, emotive, logical language means and
speech techniques in order to achieve an intended pragmatic result and organize
successful communication.
PLO 7. To analyze, compare and classify various schools and approaches in
Linguistic Studies.
PLO 8. To assess the historical legacy and new achievements of Literature Studies.
PLO 13. To explain the essence of both specific linguistic issues and one’s own
point of view and its justification to experts and laypeople in an accessible and
argumentative manner, in particular to individuals who are studying.
PLO 18. To present the results of one’s research to the academic community in
academic publications or presentations at conferences, round tables, seminars, etc.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1) knowledge of computer technology at the level of an active user, command of Spanish/Italian/Portuguese/French at a level not lower than B1; 2) knowledge of theoretical foundations: knowledge of basic linguistic concepts, in particular, in the field of translation theory, the ability to search for information in Internet references, including text corpora, and non-specialized sources
Course content
At the lectures, students get acquainted with the main directions of modern translation studies in Ukraine and in the world, aimed at identifying typical methods and techniques of translation, "universals" of translation, regularities of the translation process, criteria for evaluating the quality of translation, ways to optimize translation teaching methods, as well as research methods both actual translation methods and methods of philological and other sciences in general. The scientific-research component of the discipline involves exploration of the selected latest issues of translation studies, description of the specifics of the research object, reasoned choice of methodological tools. During practical classes, master's students share their own conclusions regarding the problem area of translation studies in reports, learn to demonstrate the scientific novelty of the researched issue, its connection with translation theories and other scientific fields, and select a complex methodological toolkit for a given issue.
