Learning outcomes
PLO 2. To demonstrate an adequate level of mastery of national and foreign languages to perform written and spoken communication, namely in the situations of professional and academic communication; to present the results of their studies in these national and foreign languages. PLO 11. To perform a scholarly analysis of language, speech and literature material, interpret and structure it based on appropriate methodological principles, sum up the results of individually processed data. PLO 19. To detect systemic interlingual differences and take them into account in translation practice. PLO 20. To undertake pre-translation analysis of specialized texts of various styles and genres. PLO 21. To know the specifics of translator’s work in various fields (textual, media, audiovisual, web-space) and be able to use necessary tools and techniques.

Course content
The purpose of the discipline: development and consolidation of the skills and abilities of the professional activity of a written and oral translator in relation to the reproduction of texts of socio-political, economic, scientific-technical and cultural topics; deepening the teaching of oral and written translation techniques and adaptation of the formed translation competence to modern professional requirements; developing skills to achieve translation adequacy and equivalence, in particular focusing on idiomatic translation, on mastering key political, economic, financial, legal, technical, medical terminology, on the ability to evaluate and reproduce the pragmatic potential of the text, translation in compliance with modern international requirements for translation deontology.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Practical classes, discussion of the most difficult and controversial issues, answers to questions, work with the main and additional literature, preparation reports and presentations, analysis of the original and translated texts, execution of own translations using theoretical knowledge on outlined topics, editing of own translations.
Assessment methods and criteria
Methods: practical classes, independent work. General criteria: (From 1 to 5) Students must perform translation of written texts, oral from paper, consecutive and two-way; to be able to express an opinion regarding the topics that are brought up for discussion during practical classes, to operate with the basic terms and concepts of the discipline, to know the main features of texts of various genres.
