Prerequisites and co-requisites
To successfully master the course content, students must have prior knowledge gained within courses on Pedagogy, History of Ukrainian literature, Methods of teaching Ukrainian literature in basic secondary school, Methods of teaching the Ukrainian language in basic secondary school, and Psychology. Students must have a knowledge of methods and techniques of teaching languages and literature; a variety of types of classes; psychological (and pedagogical) specificity of teenage students; modern testing methods to diagnose learners’ progress in languages and literature; possess skills of searching for, processing, systematizing and using modern scientific information, bibliographical sources, and computer technologies in their professional activity; developing lesson plans; making an informed choice and use of methods and techniques to fit objectives of various types of classes; design visuals, computer programs, e-textbooks, and teaching manuals.
Course content
Course Description The course aims to enhance students’ competence in teaching methods including knowledge and skills of planning, organization, and assessment of teaching/learning languages and literature in specialist natural sciences/mathematics-oriented secondary schools. The course is composed of two modules. Module 1 explores the requirements and particularities of methodological support for teaching languages and literature in natural sciences/mathematics-oriented high schools. Module 2 focuses on the analysis and development of resource packs to support teaching/learning languages in the target type of school. Summative assessment is a pass/fail test. The course envisages two modules and two module test papers; the course ends in a pass/fail test.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course integrates such didactic formats as practical sessions, independent and research work, and project work. The major activities assessed during a term are performance at practical sessions, team/individual project work, module test papers, and an end-of-course test paper. A student can earn max. 100 points and min. 60 points for the performance during a term. A detailed description of the assessment criteria is given in the course curriculum made public on the website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology.
Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment A student’s final grade is based on a 100-point grading system, a pass/fail assessment score is made up of the scores earned for the performance during the term (max. 100, min. 60 points) and does not involve any additional assessment events. The end-of-course assessment score is the sum of points earned for the classroom performance (27 points), module tests (40 points), project work (15 points), and end-of-course assignment (18 points). To succeed in the pass/fail assessment, students are required to gain a passing grade of 60; students fail if the score is below 60.
